The Art of David P. Zippi

I was born on June 20, 1953 and lived the first 25 years of my life in Jeannette, PA, a small industrial town no more than 28 miles from Pittsburgh. As a child I was inspired by the TV super heroes of the 50's, dinosaurs and monster movies. I drew pictures of this subject matter passionately. After a short time my mother noticed what I was doing and introduced to me colored pencils as well as making sure I never ran out of paper.

In high school I aced all of my art classes my final three years and decided to major in art where I received a B.S. degree in Art Education from Edinboro State College, Edinboro, PA in 1975.

In 1977 I was hired as the sole art teacher at my Alma Mater, Jeannette Sr. High School. However, because of the economic uncertainty in the Pittsburgh area at the time I pursued and landed another teaching job in Charles Co., Maryland at Maurice J. McDonough High School where I taught art for 32 of my 33 years in that profession.

In 1988 I graduated with a Masters Degree in Education and Human Development from George Washington University, Washington, D.C. In 1989 I became the Art Department Chair at McDonough High School where I held that position for 21 years as well as becoming the painting instructor at that time.

I've taken painting courses at "The Art League" in Alexandria, Va. for 28 years starting in 1990. In 1993 I was recognized by the Charles County Board of Ed. for "Exemplary Service" as an art teacher and in 1997 recognized by the Maryland Art Education Association for "Outstanding Service" in the field of Art Education.

I am married with two grown children and I own a dog. I enjoy vegetable gardening, baseball and playing the guitar which I did for 22 years professionally, which is another story.

I have primarily been an acrylic landscape painter for the past 28 years but I also have a few watercolors and oil paintings that I did prior to that time. I have built up an inventory of artwork which consists of over 45 pieces. I am a former exhibiting member of "North End Gallery" in Leonardtown, MD., a current member of Mattawoman Creek Art Center in Marbury, MD. and I have prints on display for sale at P.A. Bowen in Brandywine, MD.
